At Cafe Sienna we are passionate about the quality of our coffee and as such have introduced a range of training courses designed to enthuse you with this passion.

In our state of the art Training Centre, you will learn about coffee, its different properties and the importance of coffee grinding and extraction. You will also learn about the properties of milk, enzymes and protein, plus how to foam, steam and texture, to produce different drinks, following which you will be shown how to properly maintain and operate an espresso machine.

As you can see, we have brought together all the elements required to help you and your staff produce a perfect cup of coffee and become truly confident baristas.

At Cafe Sienna, experienced professional trainers endorsed by the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe and the Beverage Service Association, will guide you through your training and provide you with skills, enthusiasm and confidence to produce fantastic coffee drinks.

We can tailor training courses to your needs, but our three standard courses are as follows;

1. INTRODUCTORY BARISTA COURSE

  • This three hour course gives you all the elements to get started as a barista and includes;
  • The coffee revolution
  • Coffee from seed to bag
  • How your grinder and coffee machine work
  • Making the perfect espresso
  • The basics of milk preparation
  • Gourmet/Speciality drink preparation and presentation

2. ADVANCED BARISTA COURSE

This full day course is endorsed by the International Food Skills Academy (IFSA) in Yorkshire and Humber and counts as a module towards their nationally accredited qualification.

  • The coffee revolution
  • Processing and roasting coffee (using video)
  • Discuss coffees from around the world
  • In depth practical session on grinder and coffee machine
  • Making and perfecting one fluid ounce of espresso
  • Analysing the stages of extraction
  • The basics of milk preparation
  • The chemistry of milk
  • Gourmet/Speciality drink preparation and presentation

3. COFFEE CUPPING

There are so many individual taste characteristics of coffee, as well as many origins and this six hour course helps you develop and understanding of different flavours and aromas from coffees from around the world, allowing you to:

  • Identify six key aromas
  • Describe six different flavours associated with coffee
  • Choose a coffee that suits your palate
  • Identify the region of origin of at least three different coffees

Once you become confident in your barista skills, we can help you to prepare your coffee menu and also print it for you in our publishing centre.
