February 2008

Congratualtions to Hugo Hercod, winner of the UK Barista Championship 2008 and good luck when he represents the UK in the world finals in Copenhagen in June.

Also competing was Maxine Beadsmoore from our customer the Bottle Kiln at West Hallam in Derbyshire. She came a credible 7th, missing out on a final place by only 1/2 a point. Her stunning signature drink, African Sunset, was a layered blend of her specially blended espresso coffee, rose syrup and pistachio cream.

September 2007

On 17th September we changed our trading name from Coffee Exchange to Cafe Sienna.

This is the culmination of a long process which started four years ago when we incorporated and the company name became Cafe Sienna Ltd. We then followed this by naming our website www.cafesienna.co.uk and our email address then followed suit. We continued to trade as Coffee Exchange but that name will now cease.

We would like to assure everyone that nothing else will change. People, contact numbers, products, prices and our high level of service will all remain as they were, and we are sure that there will be nothing different in our daily and weekly trading relationship with customers and suppliers, other than the name change.

David Veal, Managing Director of Cafe Sienna has been appointed the new Chairman / Executive Director of the Beverage Service Association. David said 'I took up this position because I am convinced that the BSA has a role to play. I think that engendering fraternity, and giving a platform for people to meet others in the industry is a great thing...the one bonus the BSA has always had is its contacts and networking. We have often underestimated the value of this and I want to move this forward.' David says that he follows top men who both left their mark. 'The last two appointments, Ranald Paterson and Jim Devlin, were inspired choices - Ranald took the BSA from a low point, and turned it round in terms of vision and morale - membership is up fifty percent in that last four years. Jim's achievement is the City and Guilds VRQ initiative, which he will continue to push - that's his baby, and a fantastic baby it is.'
