March 2009
Congratulations to Maxine Beadsmoore of the Bottle Kiln at West Hallam in Derbyshire for coming runner up in the recent UK Barista Championship Final at Scothot in Glasgow , and also for winning the award for the best cappuccino served in the final. This was Maxine’s fifth attempt at the Championship and she has improved her position each year. She had said that this year would be her swansong, but who knows, she may now be inspired to make one final attempt…… The Bottle Kiln being officially recognised as the home of the best cappuccino in the UK will come as no surprise to anyone who has visited them. They have been on a mission for several years now to achieve perfection in their hot beverages. They have nominated several baristas for the UKBC over the years, Maxine’s colleague Emma Chapman is the reigning Coffee in Good Spirit champion, and of course they have been regional winners of the Beve Awards twice and joint national winners in 2007. Said Becky Stone, owner of the Bottle Kiln ‘I am so pleased for Maxine, she has worked so hard, often against the odds, to achieve what she has, and it is a great reward for her and her colleagues who have been so supportive of our quest for coffee perfection’.
